From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.
Warning: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Revealed
Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, desires retribution.
- Kattigan has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The fighter pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:
- The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists tables.
Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
